Asset Management

Vanguard has announced the following portfolio management assignments as part of it’s policy of rotating portfolio management staff across the globe  to strengthen their investment management capabilities: Michelle Louie, CFA, was named co-Portfolio Manager of the Vanguard 500 Index Fund; Christine Franquin becomes co-Portfolio Manager of the Vanguard Total International Stock Index Fund; Awais Khan, CFA, changes to co-Portfolio Manager of the Vanguard Consumer Discretionary Index Fund, Vanguard Consumer Staples Index Fund, Vanguard Energy Index Fund, Vanguard S&P Mid-Cap 400 Growth Index Fund,Vanguard S&P Mid-Cap 400 Index Fund, Vanguard S&P Mid-Cap 400 Value Index Fund, Vanguard Telecommunication Services Index Fund, and Vanguard Utilities Index Fund; William A. Coleman, CFA, will co-manage the Vanguard Extended Market Index Fund; Scott Geiger, moves to Vanguard’s international desk and will be a co-Portfolio Manager of the Vanguard Total World Stock Index Fund; Michael A. Johnson, will co-manage the Vanguard Information Technology Index Fund; and Michael Perre, will be the co-Portfolio Manager for the Vanguard Developed Markets Index Fund.


Former M&G, Income Manager, Alex Odd, has joined Fairstone as Portfolio Manager, alongside Oliver Stone, who was promoted from his previous role of head of research.


James Arnold, CFA, has joined ClearBridge Investments as Business Development Manager. He will be London based, coordinating institutional sales and marketing efforts and reports to Ryan Virag, CFA.


Northern Trust has recruited Mike Mahoney as a Transition Manager focused on insurance companies and financial institutions across Europe, Middle East and Africa.


Investec Asset Management has named Andrea Panfili as Sales Director for its Italian team, to pursue their expansion across the European market, focusing on institutional clients and fund buyers.


Thomas Friese, Hanspeter Bader, Baldomero Falcones and Matthias Knab have all joined Polaris as Senior Advisors


Liontrust is expanding its sales team to broaden further its distribution across the wholesale and retail markets in the UK, recruiting two regional salesmen; Andrew Taylor who joins from Neptune Investment Management to cover sales for the North of England and Scotland and Mark Wright from Jupiter Asset Management to cover the Midlands.


Jenny Yoe has joined State Street Global Advisors as Head of UK Pensions, to lead the UK defined benefit sales and client-facing teams. She was previously Head of UK Institutional at River & Mercantile Asset Management.


Asset Management, Hedge Funds

John Gee-Grant, will join QMA to lead international sales and consultant relations. Gee-Grant left BlackRock in February, after 30 years.


Hedge Funds

Neil Chriss is returning all capital to investors and shuttering his hedge fund firm, another of several veteran managers quitting this year.


Paul Tudor Jones is also experiencing investor withdrawals and Tudor Investment Corp. will close its Discretionary Macro fund and let investors shift assets to their main BVI fund.


IBD / Capital Markets

Guggenheim Securities, has hired Jeff Yingling as a Senior Advisor, expanding their Power, Energy, & Renewables franchise. He joins from J.P. Morgan where was most recently a Managing Director and Head of Midwest Investment Banking.


Aradhana Sarin, a medical doctor, who worked as an MD in Citigroup’s healthcare investment banking team, has joined Alexion Pharmaceuticals, a large-cap pharmaceutical company that focuses on rare genetic diseases.


Insurance

Craig Mauger has been named Regional Manager, Northern Region Broker Distribution in QBE’s Australia and New Zealand business.


Zurich, has appointed Torsten Utecht as new Finance Head for its German operation, to succeed Carlos Schmitt, who retires after 14 years. Utecht previously worked at Generali.


Dave Gill has been appointed Head of Operations at Allianz UK, and will be responsible for heading up specialty operations including Petplan and Allianz Musical Instruments.


Legal & General has appointed Tim Grieveson to its leadership team as IT and Change Director. He joins L&G from Hewlett Packard Enterprise, where he was Chief Cyber and Security Strategist.


AGCS has made two new appointments, expanding the UK cyber team Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty SE, as Yogi Virji is promoted to lead the UK cyber team, and Hui Yu has been named as Senior Cyber Underwriter, moving from Principia Underwriting.


Private Banking / Wealth Management

Northern Trust has poached Wealth Management Executive, Paul Hudson, from U.S. Trust to be Market Leader of Sarasota and Manatee counties in Florida. Hudson will take responsibility for business development strategy and client servicing activity to high-net-worth individuals in the region.


As UBS faces its official exit from the Broker Protocol, they have hired several teams overseeing approximately $1.4 billion in client assets including; James Schillaci, Kevin Johns and Brian Wenstrup move from Merrill Lynch in Indianapolis; Drew Williamson, who had been with Merrill Lynch since 2008, oversaw nearly $300 million in client assets also moves to UBS. Advisors Michael Holland and Zach Newby also leave Merrill for UBS, and Jay Edzards and John Cromling who manage $321 million in client assets do the same.


Private bank Julius Baer has appointed Chew Mun-Yew as new Head for the Taiwanese market. He joins from UBS, where he was in the same role.


Brown Shipley has appointed Andrew Butler-Cassar in a new role as Head of its London office.


Private Equity / Direct Investment

CAIS has adding new leadership to its finance and product teams to strengthen its platform, along with the opening of additional regional offices. Markus Persson joins as Director of Finance and David Kaul joins as Director, Alternative Investments.


Sellside – Sales; Trading; Structuring; Research

A six-member group, led by Kurt Sylvia, that oversaw $1.2 billion at UBS, has joined J.P. Morgan Securities in Palm Beach, Florida, just prior to UBS’s planned exit from the Broker Protocol on Dec. 1.
