Buyside

Chairman Martin Gilbert is retiring from Aberdeen Standard Investments in September 2020. He will not seek re-election at the company’s annual general meeting, scheduled for May 2020, and will retire from the firm, subject to the board’s approval. Gilbert served as co-CEO of the firm alongside Keith Skeoch until mid-March, when Standard Life Aberdeen PLC dissolved its co-CEO structure, leaving Skeoch as sole CEO. The move followed the March 2017 merger of Standard Life and Aberdeen Asset Management.

John Kim is joining Carlyle Group as a Managing Director of the firm’s Asia buyout team and leader of the firm’s investment activities in South Korea. Kim most recently served as a partner and head of mergers and acquisitions in Asia ex-Japan at Goldman Sachs.

European Equity Manager Stephanie Butcher is replacing Nick Mustoe as Chief Investment Officer at Invesco. Mustoe is leaving the firm after a decade of service.

Sasja Beslik has joined J. Safra Sarasin as Head of Sustainable Finance Development. Beslik served as head of responsible investments at Nordea Asset Management.

LGIM Real Assets has appointed Denizer Ibrahim Head of Retail and Futuring. Ibrahim was most recently director, head of commercial place-making and master planning at BNP Paribas Real Estate.

Private Banking / Wealth Management

Syz has hired Mehdi Lakhdar and Andrea Bodini-Nocent, as Private Bankers in Geneva and Lugano, respectively. Lakhdar joins from Banque Cantonale de Genève, where he advised the ultra-rich and previously worked for UBS and Barclays. Bodini-Nocent was most recently with EFG in Luxembourg and previously with Société Générale.

IBD / Capital Markets

Goldman Sachs have appointed Raghav Maliah and Jung Min as new leaders for its mergers and acquisitions business in Asia ex-Japan. Sushil Bathija, co-head of Southeast Asia, will also be part of the bank’s M&A team for Asia ex-Japan.

Celeste Guth has left Deutsche Bank less than three months after being promoted to run its global mergers and acquisitions department. She is joining PJT Partners. Guth is the 18th managing director to leave Deutsche Bank’s US corporate finance operation since the start of the year and the third member of its senior line-up after Mark Hantho and John Eydenberg left for Citi in May.

Insurance

Chubb has appointed Joe Vasquez as President of Combined Insurance. He was previously senior vice president at Chubb Group and head of the company’s global accident and health insurance business. He is replacing Kevin Goulding who is retiring at the end of the year. Vasquez will be directly responsible for the general management and business results of Chubb’s agency and worksite-based personal accident and supplemental health insurance company, which has operations in the US and Canada and is headquartered in Chicago.

Gina Golson Nunery has been appointed Head of Consultant Relations for workplace solutions at MassMutual Financial. Nunery previously served as senior director of consultant relations at TIAA-CREF.

Chief Executive and Country Head of Sun Life Philippines, Benedict Sison, has been named President of the Philippine Life Insurance Association (PLIA). Prior to this, he was PLIA’s chairperson for the finance and investments committee. Sison has been with Sun Life since 2010.

Back / Middle Office

Donald Harrell has been appointed Managing Director & Chief Operating Officer of Specialty business at Willis Re. Most recently, Harrell served as head of international insurance at Aspen Insurance.
