Asset Management

Vanguard Group has named Thomas Merz, Head of European Distribution (ex U.K.), a new position at the firm. He takes responsibility for growing Vanguard’s reach in new and established continental European markets. Mr. Merz will  report to Head of Europe, Sean Hagerty.


Alexis Marinof has been appointed Head of European distribution at WisdomTree Investments, replacing Morgan Lee who was made regional director for the West Coast in the U.S. institutional distribution team. Mr. Marinof will look after distribution for Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, the Nordics, Switzerland and the U.K. He will report to, Head of Europe, David Abner.


The Canada Pension Plan Investment Board, Toronto, has named Edwin D. Cass as Senior Managing Director and Global Head of Real Assets, from mid-July. He succeeds Graeme Eadie, who shifts focus within CPPIB.


Jacques Tebeka, has been appointed Head of Asset Management by Mansartis, where he takes charge of the asset management team and responsibility for investment strategy. Mr. Tebeka moves from his position as CEO at Markus AM.


Lombard Odier Investment Managers has named Ritesh Bamania  Head of Solutions, replacing Mehdi Guissi, who joined Legal and General Investment Management. Bamania becomes responsible for asset and liability management offering to institutional investors, optimization of strategic asset allocation, accounting and regulatory capital.


Nick Payne, Salman Siddiqui and Liz Fernandes, all from Nomura Asset Management have been poached by Old Mutual Global Investors to establish a new global emerging markets equity desk.


Stewart Murray has left Beaufort Investment Management, just two months after being promoted to CEO. No reasons have been made available.


Paul Marriage and John Warren have left Schroders to establish Tellworth Investments, a boutique firm.


Banking

RBC Investor & Treasury Services has appointed Hong Paterson a former J.P. Morgan executive as Country Head and Director, Global Client Coverage, in Singapore. Paterson will lead business development and client coverage activities across Singapore.


Commodities, Hedge Funds
Former Xstrata CEO Mick Davis will back new fund, Commodity Asset Management, based in New York.


Hedge Funds

Christopher Meecham has left Brewin Dolphin subsequent to the management restructure at their Oxford and Birmingham hub, and has been replaced by Birmingham boss Adam Wilkins. Richard Arris who ran the Reigate office, is on gardening leave until 31 January 2018.


IBD / Capital Markets

Ann Neidenbach has been appointed MD and Chief Information Officer at Cowen Inc. Her role will be to direct global strategic technology innovations across all business lines. At the same time Kelly Weigel has been promoted to Head of Marketing and Client Services to oversee coordination of global corporate access, marketing and communications initiatives. Patrice Growney Aitken joins Cowen’s Equity Sales and Trading team as MD and Head of Mid-Atlantic Equity Sales.


Ed Wehle has been hired as Global Head of Technology Services at Deutsche Bank, where he will report to Global Head of Tech, Media and Telecoms Investment Banking Coverage, Mark Keene.


Raymond James has hired Anthony Scott as head of propositions, responsible for expansion of company resources and proposition for wealth managers.


Laura Crosbie, has been hired by ABN AMRO to work in the public sector debt capital markets business.


Cecile Hillary (Morgan Stanley) has joined Barclays has hired Cecile Hillary to join their Financing Resource Management team aimed at improving returns and manage capital and financial resources.


Giovanni Gregoratti, co-head of Real Estate and Lodging Group (EMEA) in Citi’s investment bank has left to launch Aegila Capital Management, a new real estate investment and advisory firm in London supported by a number of major Middle Eastern financial institutions including the Bank of Bahrain and Kuwait (BBK) and Ossol Asset Management. Simone Carminati, head of business development at BKK and Head of Asset Management, Mohammed Ahmed Abdulla Ali, sit as non-executive directors on the Aegila board.

Aegila has already built a team in London with Alexander Doobay, who was with Tristan Capital Partners and Ulf Nore, a real estate analyst at Norges Investment Management.


Insurance

VAM Funds  has hired executive David Cockerton (Zurich Insurance Group AG) as a senior adviser as they look to grow their Middle Eastern business.


Private Banking / Wealth Management

Signia Wealth have named Michael Rosenthal as chief investment officer replacing Etienne de Merlis.


First Republic Bank have poached Danielle Ambrose and Diane Hirschhorn, an elite adviser team from Merrill Lynch. They will service individuals, families, nonprofits and foundations.


Patrick Ho has been appointed Asia investment strategist at HSBC Private Banking in Hong Kong. He was previously Director of Greater China equity research at Credit Suisse Private Bank.


Nicolas Bayet  has been appointed Head of Markets and Investment Solutions by CA Indosuez Wealth Management, where he will be responsible for: Luxembourg, Belgium, Spain and Italy. Mr. Bayet, will be based in Luxembourg and reports to CEO and head of Private Banking Europe at CA Indosuez Wealth Management Europe, Olivier Chatain,  and Frédéric Lamotte, global head of Markets and Investment Solutions for the Indosuez Wealth Management group.


James Hambro & Partners has appointed Gavin Rochussen and Sir Alan Yarrow as partnership advisers. Mr. Rochussen becomes CEO  of Polar Capital and takes on a non-executive role to ‘guide and advise on the continuing growth strategy’.  Sir Alan, who was Lord Mayor of London in 2014-15 also takes up a non-executive role.


Private Equity / Direct Investment

General Atlantic has named Yong Hak Huh, the former Hong Kong Monetary Authority executive as a special advisor in Asia. Huh will work closely with their capital partnering team and the Asian investment team.


Scott Peterman, has been appointed as a partner in the mergers and acquisitions practice at Orrick. He acts for private fund sponsors and investors in the formation of alternative investment vehicles, including private equity funds, infrastructure and real estate funds, and hedge funds.


Nicolas Di Maggio has been appointed CIO Indirect Investments and Head of Asset Management Indirect at Swiss Finance & Property Group where he will manage the team responsible for indirect investments in real estate and lead new product launches.


Sellside – Sales; Trading; Structuring; Research

Jonathan Yalmokas Head of Prime Brokerage in the Americas at Bank of America Corp’s will move to Royal Bank of Canada and lead an equity financing business.
