Asset Management

Frédéric Jamet  has been appointed Head of Trading and co-Head of Research at TOBAM. He will oversee the trading and research departments while also sharing the firm’s expertise with clients and third parties. Jamet will supervise all trading activities within TOBAM’s equities, fixed income, forex and multi-asset strategies as Head of Trading and as co-Head of Research, he will support TOBAM’s sustained efforts to develop its proprietary approach’s theoretical foundations, and oversee research development for the firm’s operational and portfolio management divisions.


First State Investments has appointed Heather Brilliant, CFA, as MD, Americas, from 8 September 8. Ms. Brilliant will be responsible for managing the business of First State Investments in the Americas, expanding their market presence across the Americas and focus on building the institutional capabilities including Fixed Income and Infrastructure.


Franklin Templeton Investments has appointed Avinash Satwalekar as new Country Head of Malaysia and Chief Executive Officer of Franklin Templeton Asset Management. He has relocated to Kuala Lumpur to take responsibility for leading the firm’s retail and institutional distribution efforts across Malaysia.


Harvest Global Investments, has appointed Winnie Wong as Fixed Income Portfolio Manager, Kathy Zhang as China equity strategist, responsible for Hong Kong and A-Share stock markets and Kenn An as head of product development, as it expands in Hong Kong. Wong has over 12 years of experience, including RBC, Warburg Pincus and Credit Suisse . Zhang moves from Credit Suisse, and An from UBS Asset Management.


GoldenTree Asset Management LP, has named Russell Taylor as Managing Director to lead their new office in Sydney, Australia. He moves from JP Morgan, where he was M, Head of Institutional Sales for Australia and New Zealand.


BlackRock Inc, is reshuffling a number of top regional executives and placing a new leader at the head of their alternatives business, Mark McCombe, is dropping his role as head of the alternative investing business line to focus on leading the Americas region. David Blumer replaces McCombe as head of the BlackRock Alternative Investors division. Rachel Lord is taking over the (EMEA) region, from Blumer. Stephen Cohen, moves into the role of head of EMEA iShares.


Old Mutual Global Investors has appointed of Benjamin Huegli as Sales Director for German, Austrian and Swiss markets. He will be based in Zurich and will report to Dominik Issler, Group Head of DACH distribution, working with him to grow their client base among financial institutions, wealth managers, private banks, family offices and pension funds.


Sophia Tickell a founding partner of healthcare, energy, climate change and finance think tank Meteos Limited, has been appointed  a non-executive director to the board of Liontrust from 1 October 2017.


Banking

Matt Weir from Goldman Sachs has hired to lead Asset Finance Trading in their new financing resource management Barclays, FiRM.  This division focuses on improving their returns and better managing their capital and financial resources.


Hedge Funds

Highland Capital Management LP, has appointed Trey Parker as co-Chief Investment Officer as they grow current offerings and strengthen their credit platform, sharing responsibility with Highland co-founder Mark Okada.


Citadel, has hired Porter Collins and Vincent Daniel to head up a new stocks team focusing on financial companies within their Aptigon Capital unit. The pair ran their own hedge fund at Seawolf Capital.


Schultze Asset Management has appointed former Oppenheimer & Co. executive William Skolnick as Vice President of Business Development at the same time as they expand their advisory board by four with Perpetual Holdings Managing Partner, Vik Jindal, NYONair CFO Gary Julien, former Deloitte LLP Deputy General Counsel Matthew Ross and Greenwich Energy Capital founder Jasjeet Sood joining.


Capula Investment Management, Partner and Chief Executive Officer Steven Gregornik, is the latest senior executive to leave this year.


IBD / Capital Markets

Houlihan Lokey Inc has announced that Reinhard Koester has joined as MD, and co-Head of the Financial Institutions Group. Koester was previously a co-head of specialty finance at Barclays Capital.


UBS has hired Lloyd Sprung, a Senior MD in Evercore’s restructuring division, as Head of Restructuring. Sprung’s team will work on restructuring and a broad range of deals across distressed M&A and equity capital raising, as well as representing companies, creditors, owners and other key stakeholders during restructuring negotiations.


UBS has poached Catherine Cai a senior banker from Citi for a new position as Executive Vice Chairman of the Investment Bank. Cai will be based in their Hong Kong office and will serve as a member of the Asia Pacific Corporate Client Services Management Committee as well as the Global CCS Management Committee.


Insurance

Pat Regan, Head of QBE’s Operations in Oceania, is expected to replace John Neal as CEO when he steps down at the end of the year.


Private Banking / Wealth Management

Shawn DuBurg and Britton C. Smith, have joined CFA MUFG Union Bank’s office in Portland, Oregon. DuBurg becomes a Director and Private Wealth Advisor within The Private Bank while Smith moves in as a Vice President and Senior Portfolio Manager with HighMark Capital Management, Inc.


Standard Chartered Private Bank has made a range of strategic appointments, boosting client coverage across Greater China and North Asia.

Jack Wu and Pauline Ko join as MD’s and Market Heads, based in Hong Kong. Pitman Lau, MD and Team Leader, joins from BNP Paribas, and Reggie Cheung, Executive Director and Team Leader, comes from HSBC. The regional front office team has added ten Relationship Managers, with Bell Wong and Fredric Leung, appointed as Executive Directors. Chris Tang, Kwok-On Fung and Chris Tong, join the investment advisory team as Executive Directors.


National Australia Bank has named seasoned banker Julie Rynski for the newly created role of Executive General Manager Specialised Banking. Rynski will operate from Melbourne and reports to Chief Customer Officer, Business and Private Banking, Angela Mentis.


Lombard Odier has hired David Zahn from Franklin Templeton to manage, The PrivilEdge – Franklin Flexible Euro Aggregate Bond fund was launched on May 15 2017.


Societe Generale Private Banking has added Cédrick Merour and Martin Petermann to its Swiss Private Banking team in Zürich. Merour, was previously head of Market Solutions in Geneva, while Petermann joins as Senior Relationship Manager.


Reuss Private Germany has hired Alrik Haug to the management board, joining MD Axel Rohr to set up a dual leadership structure. He joins from Deutsche Finanzportfolio Verwaltung.

Railway Pensions Investments Ltd has appointed Alastair Dawson from CBRE’s national asset management team and Richard Van Lente from Market Tech as Senior Property Asset Managers in their internal property investment team.

HSBC has hired Maxim Safonov, the Sberbank CIB’s Head of Global Markets. He returns to HSBC, having spent six years there from 2004, as Head of Markets for Moscow and Head of Trading for the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).
