Asset Management

Two new positions have been created at State Street Global Advisors, the asset management arm of the US-listed bank. Noel Archard has joined as Head of Global SPDR Product from BlackRock, where he served as country head for Canada. Seth Morrison has been named Head of Global SPDR Marketing after moving from Vanguard.


Natixis Asset Management, the French fund house, has appointed Chou Chong as Head of Asian Equities Management, based in Singapore. Mr Chong joins from Aberdeen Asset Management. He replaces Francois Theret, who is returning to Paris to a new role at Natixis.


Franklin Templeton Investments has announced the appointment of Simon Coxeter as new Managing Director, Head of Investment Solutions, Asia. Prior to joining Franklin Templeton, Coxeter was a Principal for the investment arm of consultancy firm Mercer, where he evaluated multi asset and equity strategies.

Neptune, the UK-based asset manager, has appointed Michael McLintock, the former Chief Executive of M&G Investments, as a Special Adviser on strategy and distribution. Charlie Parker is leaving Neptune following the restructuring of his role as Head of Distribution. Parker will join Sanlam UK, the London-based wealth manager, in November.

Boston Partners has opened an office in London. Joshua Jones will lead the investment team in London and William Pawson will oversee European distribution.

Jeffrey Woodard has moved to Axa Investment Managers as a Principal in the infrastructure equity team. He joins the asset management arm of the French insurer from UBS. Berenberg, Germany’s oldest private bank, has hired Matthias Born as Chief Investment Officer for Equities. Peter Kraus has also joined Berenberg to lead the small and mid-cap team in the wealth and asset management division. Both previously worked for Allianz Global Investors, the asset management arm of the German insurance company.

Vanguard Australia has appointed a new Chief Financial Officer. Johanna Platt will lead Vanguard’s finance division. Platt is an experienced finance leader who will join Vanguard from Iron Mountain, an information management firm, where she currently holds the role of Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for Australia and New Zealand.

Aquila Capital has appointed Jörn Flachmann as Head Client Advisory Germany, who will be responsible for the financial assets segment.

IBD / Capital Markets

The latest recruit at Cantor Fitzgerald is Medha Chadha, a former Credit Suisse investment banker who has just signed up to Cantor as a Managing Director and Head of Equity Capital Markets Syndicate. Other significant hires include Greg Dabal, who moved from Credit Suisse as and MD in Prime Brokerage, Pascal Bandelier, who joined as Global Head of Equities from Credit Suisse and Keith Babbitt, the new Head of Securities lending who came from Knight Capital. Chadha worked at Credit Suisse in New York for her entire investment banking career, having joined as a analyst in 2004. She also has an MBA from Columbia University.

Gan Kim Khoon resigned from RHB Investment Bank a month ago and started at AmInvestment Bank on Tuesday this week as Executive Vice­ President and Head of Equity Markets. He reports to Raja Teh Maimunah Raja Abdul Aziz, CEO of AmInvestment and Head.

A member of the loan syndications team at Standard Chartered in Hong Kong has left the bank for personal reasons. Frances Yao is no longer working at the lender. Yao reported to Julia Chou, the Regional Head of Loan Syndications for North Asia and Greater China. Yao was an Associate Director at Standard Chartered.


Ping An Insurance has appointed Jonathan Larsen as Chief Innovation Officer of the group and Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Ping An Global Voyager Fund. He was most recently Global Head of Retail Banking at Citi.

Avicennia Capital and Sun Life Malaysia today announced the appointment of new CEOs at their respective companies. Avicennia Capital has appointed Ooi Say Teng as CEO, while Sun Life Malaysia Assurance Berhad has appointed Raymond Lew Yung Chow as CEO & President. Chow will also take on the role of Country Head, overseeing the insurance businesses of Sun Life in Malaysia. Teng joins Avicennia Capital from Sun Life Malaysia where he was previously the CEO, while Chow takes on the CEO position at Sun Life Malaysia where he was previously the Deputy CEO.

Transamerica Life has announced the appointment of a regional Chief Commercial Officer. Mike Goodall will be responsible for sales, distribution, and marketing functions across the branch offices in Hong Kong and Singapore. In the new role he will report to Marc Russell Lieberman, President and CEO of Transamerica Life Bermuda, and will be a member of the Transamerica Life Bermuda Management Team. Prior to joining Transamerica Life Bermuda, Goodall served as Head of Insurance at Citibank Australia, where he was responsible for managing Citibank’s life, credit and P&C insurance business.

Market Infrastructure

International law firm Withers has hired Senior Tax Advisor and Shingo Iizuka for its Tokyo office. He previously worked at Deloitte’s Tokyo team, where he was Director of the Private Company and the Global Employer Practices, and prior to that was Deputy Director in the Tokyo bureau of Japan’s National Tax Agency.

Andrew Rogers has been promoted to President of Alliance Wealth Management, LLC, in Carbondale according to CFP Jeff Rose. Rogers is a financial adviser with more than 11 years of experience.

Standard Life Wealth has made a number of senior appointments to bolster its leadership team. John Hair has been promoted to Chief Investment Officer, and Julie-Ann Ashcroft to Head of Investments, alongside Darren Ripton.

Private Equity / Direct Investment

Global private equity firm The Riverside Company has named European PE industry veteran Dörte Höppner as the new Chief Operating Officer of its Riverside Europe Fund. Most recently, she was a Managing Director at German law firm Pöllath + Partners after serving as CEO and secretary general at Brussels-based trade association Invest Europe from 2011 to 2016.

Sellside – Sales; Trading; Structuring; Research

Bernard Minsky has joined Cowen Cowen Group, Inc.’s international prime services team as Director and Head of Risk Management. Prior to joining Cowen, Minsky founded Certior Advisors, a consulting firm providing risk management services to the investment community.

Chris Leavy, a former chief investment officer in BlackRock’s US fundamental equity division, has joined MedMen, where he will serve as a Partner and Co-Chairman of the Los Angeles-based medical cannabis investment group.
